Volunteer Share ‘n’ Wear Volunteer Assistants

Share ‘n’ Wear

The ‘Share’ part of the service encourages people to donate clothing for reuse rather than throwing it away when it no longer fits or when they get bored of it. The ‘Wear’ part of the service aims to provide items of good quality clean clothing to those who would benefit from it. The service is used by both those in need and those who want to avoid so called ‘fast fashion’ by reusing clothes discarded by others.

You will be amazed at how much clothing we have saved from landfill since the project began in 2018 – check out the up-to-date figures here.

There is a role for you –

Role 1: Behind the scenes – sorting and arranging

You would be part of a team responsible for receiving donations of clothing and sorting through them before clothing goes on display.

You will weigh donations and record the results to help us to calculate carbon savings. You would decide if items are clean enough and in good condition for re-use, setting aside any clothing that is not suitable but can be passed on as rags.

You will be responsible for passing sorted clothing through to the ‘shop floor’.

What kind of person are we looking for?

You need to be hard working, organised and tidy. You need to be punctual and reliable to help us operate Share ‘n’ Wear smoothly.

You will need to be able to play a role in a team. You may be asked to work independently without supervision.

Commitment?

You would require to commit to regular times according to your availability, which can be flexible.   You can help with as little as a couple of hours every fortnight.

You may also be asked to collect donations from local people if they need help to get their donations to us.

Apart from the obvious requirement of owning or having access to a car, you will have a full clean UK driver’s license. You should have a friendly and open personal and be reliable – you will be the ‘face’ of the project while out in the community.

You would be part of a team brought together to organise or support occasional events. Previous events have included The Big Swap with ELREC, The Meadows Climate festival or our local  community fun days.

You would be required to help on the day of the event, preparing clothing to take, setting up, attending the stall and clearing away at the end of the day.
