Part time Job Opportunity: Sewing Workshop Assistant (Freelance)
2.5 hours per week Monday morning plus 2.5 hours per month Thursday evening
Granton Goes Greener is looking for a Sewing Workshop Assistant to support our weekly Monday morning and monthly Thursday evening sessions.
Details:
- When: Mondays, 09:45am – 12.15pm, 1st Thursday of month 5.45pm – 8.15pm
- Location: Granton Parish Church, Edinburgh
- Payment: £13.45 /hour (invoiced monthly)
- Breaks: Monday sewing classes generally take 3-4 breaks per year. Thursday sewing class takes a break in January.
This is a freelance role, so the selected candidate will invoice monthly for the paid hours. As a freelancer, you will be responsible for registration with HMRC and personally pay all Income Tax and National Insurance due on earnings.
You don’t need to be a trained sewing teacher or professional seamstress — just someone with basic sewing knowledge who can support participants with simple tasks such as threading sewing machines, making textile bags, or basic mending. A qualified sewing tutor will always be present to handle more advanced teaching.
Duties include:
1. Setting up the classroom including sewing machines and tables, then clearing away at the end of sessions.
2. Assisting service users with their sewing projects.
3. Assisting the Sewing Teacher in developing ideas for future classes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about community work, or a young person interested in gaining experience and confidence in a supportive environment.
To apply:
Please send a one-page CV and a short cover letter explaining your interest in the role to info@grantongoesgreener.org.uk.
Deadline: Monday 26th January 2026
We look forward to hearing from you!
